“Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian any more than going to a garage makes you a automobile”- (Billy Sunday).

Billy Sunday was a famous American baseball player who after working with the Y.M.C.A. from 1891-1895 became a nationally renowned evangelist. (American’s God & Country, William J. Federer).

“Now the place was called by them Rameumptom, which, being interpreted, is the holy stand. Now, from this stand they did offer up, every man, the selfsame prayer unto God, thanking their God that they were chosen of him, and that he did not lead them away after the tradition of their brethren, and that their hearts were not stolen away to believe in things to come, which they knew nothing about. Now, after the people had all offered up thanks after this manner, they returned to their homes, never speaking of their God again until they had assembled themselves together again to the holy stand, to offer up thanks after their manner.” (Alma 31).

You might remember that this was the Zoramite people  who came every week to say a prayer then left without thinking or speaking of God till the next week. This kind of attitude is fairly prevalent today and has crept into our culture and somewhat into our own house, so to speak. We must guard ourselves from becoming “Sunday Christians” who attend church but don’t incorporate its principles into our lives. It is no wonder that so many people have become disillusioned with “organized” religion. When it requires little, little is gained.

To be a humble follower of Christ has always required effort and sacrifice. We all know from experience that when things are easy, not much development of character is gained. May we not be just “Sunday Christians” but incorporate and practice the teachings of Christ into our daily lives!
