I Should Have Given More Praise!

“The sometimes stern Duke of Wellington, in the sunset of his life, was asked how he could do better if he were to live his life over again. Said he, “I should have given more praise.” How many of us display that same deficiency?

Joseph Smith emphasized the importance of our understanding the character of God, one of whose attributes is love. Said he:

“Love is one of the chief characteristics of Deity, and ought to be manifested by those who aspire to be the sons of God. A man filled with the love of God, is not content with blessing his family alone, but ranges through the whole world anxious to bless the whole human race.”

When is the last time we expressed appreciation to our parents, siblings, loved ones or others? There are so many ways to do so, on a daily basis, if we but look and make such expressions a habit in our lives. Such praise will enrich the souls of both the giver and the receiver. Over my lifetime, expressions of appreciation to me from others, has often mended or built up relationships that have now endured the long and windy road of life. Such a blessing in my life!

I have long felt that we do not express enough appreciation to others for what they do. A small heartfelt “thank you” goes a long way in making someone’s day brighter. I also believe that a true follower of Christ will be filled with love and not only serve his family, but can be one to “bless the whole human race” by liberally giving praise to all.

Let our hearts be full of love, and may our tongues tastefully delight in being covered by words of praise for our God, and for all mankind!
