Something For Everyone!

TheDiscipleMD

I think part of the reason we should all view, listen to, or read all of the General Conference talks from this week-end was best explained by Elder Holland a couple of years ago. He explained that each person who had spoken in conference did so without assignment. Each had to prayerfully select their topic and then write, rewrite and then rewrite again, the message they felt the Lord had inspired them to deliver. He spoke of how diverse the membership of the church has become and the difficulty of addressing all the needs of the members in the talks. But one thing he said really hit home for me. Paraphrasing him, he said that somewhere in all those talks there was a message that would be given that would specifically address a need of each member. That there would be a “personal” message for each of us in some talk that was given.

For each of us to find that “personal” message, of which Elder Holland spoke of, we need to go through “all” of the talks to ensure that we are not missing that very sacred and inspired message meant for our lives. I  have watched all of the sessions of conference for many years. But, I will confess, that in my younger years of marriage, my family responsibilities often got in the way and it wasn’t always possible.  And I’m sure that is the case for many. But the miracle of technology allows us to view all of the conference talks via recordings.

May each of us take the time to listen, view or read all of the messages given this weekend. I am convinced that Elder Holland is right. There is, or are, personal messages there for each of us. The Savior said, “…Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” (Luke 11:9). Let us seek in the words spoken this weekend for personal messages that pertain to our lives. In so doing we will find words of comfort, guidance, and inspiration.
