When Your Parents Are “Great and Noble”

TheDiscipleMd

My Mother has long since left this earthly abode and was joined by my Father a couple of years ago. But be it on this side of the veil, or the other, they both live and continue to influence for good the lives of those they associate with.  When you have a father, and mother, whose lives are centered around the life teachings of Jesus Christ, can there be any better heritage? And although my life has fallen short of my fathers, it is vastly better than it would have been had I not had his influence throughout my life. The greatest gift he and my Mother gave to me, next to life itself, was an understanding and testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ; the teachings and practices of which have profoundly altered my life for the good.

The adjective “great” is bandied about in such a casual way today. But I have known very few men and women, in my life, who I would describe as “great” and also “noble.” And I might add, there are probably very few men and women of such nature in history. But today, after all these years, I once again pondered my heritage, and my eyes grew moist at the profound nature of being blessed with such parentage

I am a son of a “great and noble parents” the thought of which, elevates me to a higher level. I am blessed! So too is the world, of which, all of us, are sons and daughters of the “greatest and most noble” of all; God our Father, who is as real and as powerful as our earthly fathers. My Dad and Mom taught me that, and I hold it close when times are tough. It lifts me up and helps me make it through! I am blessed to have such a knowledge and faith!

I wish there were words to express my deepest emotion of gratitude that I feel swell deep in my heart for having parents, whose example and teachings help germinate and water a seed of faith; a hope in Christ; a love of God! But alas, as Nephi lamented, “…neither am I mighty in writing, like unto speaking.” (2 Nephi 33: 1)

I can only say, “Thank you Dad, and thank you Mom! Together you have blessed my life; the lives of our family; you have blessed the world and left it a better place to live!”
