Will ‘The Story Of Our Life’ Die With Us?

Spencer Kimball wrote:

“What could you do better for your children and your children’s children than to record the story of your life, your triumphs over adversity, your recovery after a fall, your progress when all seemed black, your rejoicing when you had finally achieved? “Some of what you write may be humdrum dates and places, but there will also be rich passages that will be quoted by your posterity.Get a notebook … a journal … and maybe the angels may quote from it for eternity.” (New Era, Oct. 1975, p. 5.)

Years ago I learned that keeping journals, letters and records can be a great source of inspiration and encouragement. Over the past years, in writing “The DiscipleMD” I have often quoted from the records that I have kept. I have often been inspired and uplifted when I read, wrote, or received something of value. By re-reading these things I again partake of their fruits. Unlike temporal fruits that replenish the body but once, spiritual fruits can replenish the soul again and again. I would encourage each of us to keep a journal as well as letters of value for our remembrance. Although I principally write “The DiscipleMD” for the edification of others, I have found that on many occasions I find myself being inspired and uplifted as I relate past experiences. I am blessed once again in so doing!

I am a firm believer that the Lord inspires each of us throughout our lifetime, regardless of our belief system. If we do not record, and share the glory, majesty, and the beauty of our lives, all of the lessons and values that we hold dear, and wish to impart to loved ones, will be lost! And that will be the greatest tragedy never written!
