With Love And Great Admiration- Dad

My Father wrote me this letter over ten years ago. He has since passed on to the other side, making these thoughts more penetrating than ever. Where is he now? He was convinced of the answer to the question that has plagued mankind since the beginning.

Dear Son,

The tumult and the shouting dies-
The Captains and the Kings depart-
Still stands Thine ancient sacrifice,
An humble and a contrite heart
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget—lest we forget!

Job’s ancient question “If a man die, shall he live again? should actually read “When” a man dies, shall he live again?” because death is inevitable and universal.

Amulek spoke to the Zoramites and told them that the ‘great question which is in your minds is whether the word be in the Son of God, or whether there shall be no Christ.” (Alma 34:5) In other words, is there life after mortal death? Particularly, as we visit gravesites and ponder the lives of our deceased loved ones as well as our own, the ‘great question’ always comes to our minds, as well as to the minds of all those to whom life and continued existence are precious and who desire to know the answer to the great question. The answer comes quickly to those of faith ‘that all are fallen and are lost, and must perish except it be through the atonement which it is expedient should be made’ in accordance with ‘the great plan of the eternal God.”

As my time of probation approaches its end, I have a perfect faith in the promises the Eternal God has given of resurrection and eternal life to all those who love Him and keep his commandments; to those who covenant with Him and keep those covenants; to those whom death does not overtake before the summer is past, the harvest is ended, with their souls not saved. (D&C 45) In my minds eye, I see loved ones coming forth from the tomb with youthful bodies cleansed and glorified through the power of the resurrection and the power of the atonement of Jesus Christ (2 Nephi 10:25)

These are somber thoughts, but as the years pass, the day of probation is shortened and may end at any moment. I have no doubt that you will be ready and hope we will all be prepared for that great day.

ROOTS OF INSPIRATION

In 2007 I began writing a daily inspirational thought to my children, now grown, with the intent to draw them closer to Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. The influence of the gospel of Jesus Christ is found in all aspects of our lives. The Savior was a great teacher because he taught parables that resonated with the common man. He could relate simple stories that could be understood by all. I have found the more simple the story, the more profound the message.All of our testimonies can have a powerful impact for good for centuries if we take the time to write them down. After all, the scriptures are simply the inspired thoughts and interaction of men with deity that have been written down for all to read. There is no reason that our influence for good has to go with us to the grave. I have hopes, as did Jacob whose final words were, “…to the reader I bid farewell, hoping that many of my brethren may read my words. Brethren, adieu”
