I share a most personal email I sent to my wife on September 15, 2000, in hopes that its content is of value to someone who might be going through difficult times in their life.

“Have faith, and all will work out for the best. It isn’t always what we want but what the Lord wants
for us. I am confident that He is watching over us and will guide us in decisions that we will make
concerning our future. We have a wonderful family and are blessed in so many ways.

Sometimes our problems can swallow us up and make us unhappy.. But trials come and go, but
love is eternal. You and I have one another and our great kids. If we support each other and build each other up in hard times, we can find happiness and appreciate the small blessings of life. We are blessed parents. Let us lay our burdens on the lord and let Him carry us through these challenging times. Your parents are coming, and this is a wonderful time to get ready to welcome them into our home. We can do all things with the might of the Lord. He has laid tremendous responsibilities on us both. But He will never require more than we can give. Let us be faithful till the end. He will reward us openly and with love. We have devoted our lives to building up the Lord’s kingdom. We have done what is right in rearing our family and in sacrificing much time and energy in service. I believe in the promises of Heavenly Father. All that He has will be ours if we persevere and endure to the end. I am grateful for a wonderful wife like you who has given much to serve. You have become all that I wanted in a faithful wife. I pray for you and your health, and hope that the Lord watches over you and blesses you with peace and comfort. I am sure we have done the right thing in dedicating our lives to the Lord. I am convinced every day that this church is true. The Book of Mormon is a book from God. We are doing what is right. Thank you for being a great friend. You have been a wonderful wife, but more importantly, a great strength for me. Let us continue onward and upward, and the Lord will come to our aid. He will watch over us. I am sure. Love you!”

I am not sure what the circumstances were surrounding this email, but the fact that I don’t remember why I sent it is a testimony of how problems that seem large can be overcome with the help of the Lord and time. As I stated in this email, “trials come and go, but Love is eternal.” If we foster that love, it can see us through hard times. With Jesus Christ as the third wheel, we can steady our marriage, the direction of our life, and our destiny in the eternities!
