Too often, we spend time worrying about things on the horizon that never happen. As a young husband and father, I was so anxious to be everything, all at once, that I believe I robbed myself of enjoying the moment. As a middle-aged man, I often worried about my children and whether their lives would turn out OK. And how was my career going, and where was it headed? Was I where I wanted to be, and was I going to ‘that’ place I had in my mind? As an older man, it’s “Is there time enough left to accomplish everything I started?
We would all like to think that we can control every aspect of our lives. But the truth is, we can’t! While decisions we make affect many aspects of our lives, many things are just out of our control, and no amount of worrying will change that. So why do we do it when it brings so much anxiety into our lives, which generally creates unhappiness? I’m not sure I know the answer, but I do know that worrying robs us of precious time that could be spent on more productive things that could enrich our lives.
Let us be patient with ourselves; we will get there. It doesn’t all have to be accomplished today. Let us move forward and enjoy the beauties of life. Hard work, faith, patience, and time have a way of rewarding us. Make sure our desires continue to be righteous, and we will never look back with regret! Most of all, the faith that life is eternal should chase away some of our anxieties, knowing that time is just something we measure here on earth.
Remember- “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:34 NIV)
