Has ‘That Time’ Come?

TheDiscipleMD

As a young man I recall being impressed by several stories found in the scriptures that taught me valuable lessons about life. Some that I have carried in my heart to this day. Lessons that I could apply to the modern life in which I live. One such lesson that has stayed with me is found in the 29th chapter of Mosiah that has to do with governance.

Today’s current political and social atmosphere have brought to mind some of the words that King Mosiah wrote, as recorded in that chapter, to his people well over 2000 years ago. And I suppose that the words were recorded exactly as he wrote them, because I’m sure the proclamation he sent out was saved for posterity. So I don’t think the prophet Mormon gave a summary of his proclamation. I think he was quoting directly from it, verbatim. Here’s an observation that King Mosiah wrote that I have always remembered and of which I am often reminded of regarding life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

“Now it is not common that the voice of the people desireth anything contrary to that which is right; but it is common for the lesser part of the people to desire that which is not right; therefore this shall ye observe and make it your law-to do your business by the voice of the people. And if the time comes that the voice of the people doth choose iniquity, then is the time that the judgments of God will come upon you; yea, then is the time he will visit you with great destruction even as he has hitherto visited this land” (Mosiah 29:26-27)

And I am left to wonder…has that time come?
