The Word of God “Unfiltered”

TheDiscipleMD

The definition of unfiltered as given by Merriam-Webster is, “not modified, processed, or refined.”

While listening to conference this past weekend, the word “unfiltered” kept coming back to my mind. There has been a lot said and written about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints these past few years. Much of what has been written and spoken has been filtered through the mass media of our day. What I found so enjoyable, this past weekend, was the “unfiltered” messages that came from the leaders of the church.

As I listened to the speakers I couldn’t help but feel impressed and inspired with the content, truthfulness, and power of their messages. When you receive the word of God unfiltered, it is sweet to the ears. I was touched, often, by the profound wisdom in their words, the sincerity of their deliverance and the straightforward nature of their messages. I often felt the spirit testify to my soul that the words they spoke were the unfiltered words that God would have the world hear. I know some might think that any words spoken by man, on behalf of God are filtered, and sometimes they might be right. But they don’t have to be. The scriptures say:

“Do ye not remember that I said unto you that after ye had received the Holy Ghost ye could speak with the tongue of angels? And now, how could ye speak with the tongue of angels save it were by the Holy Ghost? Angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost; wherefore, they speak the words of Christ.” (2 Nephi 32:2-3)

As Nephi stated, if you speak by the power of the Holy Ghost, you speak with the tongue of angels and the angels speak the words of Christ. How could anyone not feel the angelic power, majesty, and spirit of the unfiltered words of God spoken in the addresses that were delivered this past weekend? Who, upon listening with a sincere heart, wouldn’t have been penetrated by the wonderful messages that spoke of the divine nature of man, of service to God and to our being good to all men? Who can deny the beauty of the principles and doctrines that serve as the foundation of the restored church’s mission?

The beauty of the gospel is that every man can receive, unfiltered, a testimony of the truthfulness of its message. Every man, woman, and child is encouraged to seek out a divine confirmation, directly, and unfiltered, from God via personal prayer.

If we want to find the truthfulness of the messages delivered this past weekend, and of those who propose to be God’s messengers, we are encouraged to go directly to the source, God himself, and get a confirmation, unfiltered, directly from Him. All of us have that right and privilege. If we have doubts, let us ask of God and He will give to us the unfiltered answer we so desire.
