On Father’s Day of this past year I found myself writing in my personal journal. Recorded that day in my thoughts, among other things, were these words:
“I am grateful this day for life itself, for the goodness of the Lord in my life. I am richly blessed and overcompensated. Glory be to God for my life, and especially for having the wonderful and sacred responsibility of being a Dad.”
My thoughts of that day reminded me of the wise words of King Benjamin when he spoke, saying:
“…he doth require that ye should do as he hath commanded you; for which if ye do, he doth immediately bless you; and therefore he hath paid you. And ye are still indebted unto him, and are, and will be, forever and ever; therefore, of what have ye to boast?” (Mosiah 2:24)
We live in trying times. Not a day goes by without most of us facing a challenge of some sort, be it physical, social, economic, or spiritual. I suppose that no matter the age of time, all have felt similar feelings of being overwhelmed with the cares of this world. Yet, I think if we stop to take an inventory of our lives, we will find that we have been ‘overcompensated’ by the Lord. Sometimes we just need to drop to our knees and thank the Lord for life itself. By so doing, we gain humility, whereby gaining the blessings associated with that quality, which is peace of mind that our life has purpose and that our lives are safely in the hands of a loving Father.
