“I’d Like To Bury My Testimony!”

TheDisicpleMD

A young child once testified across the pulpit one Sunday that, “I would like to bury my testimony.”  The slip of the tongue by a small child can sometimes speak more truth than we would like to admit. Perhaps all of us, at some time in our life,  would like to ‘bury’ our testimony instead of ‘bear’ it.  After all, by burying it, we might also be able to bury all the obligations that come with it. Alas, by so doing we also lose the blessings that come with the courageous exercise of our faith.

Jesus Christ used a simple analogy to state the obvious when it comes to the purpose of bearing a testimony.

“Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.” (Matthew 5:15)

We need not be obnoxious nor offensive in letting our light shine. We simply need to apply the principles of the gospel in our lives and the goodness of its works will illuminate the lives of all those we come into contact with. To bury our testimony is to hide the goodness of the gospel from others, as well as rob ourselves of its wonderful blessings. May we have the faith to put the light of the gospel on a candlestick, thus allowing its light to warm the souls of all within its reach.
